"From the Conventional to the Ingenious"
5th Geological Conference
OF THE GEOLOGICAL SOCIETY OF TRINIDAD & TOBAGO 2012

ABSTRACT/ PAPER SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
This document provides guidelines to authors and presenters for paper, abstract, poster and presentation submissions for the technical programme.
The Geological Society of Trinidad & Tobago (GSTT) welcomes your technical contribution to its 5th Geological Conference, "From the Conventional to the Ingenious". Abstracts and papers are currently being accepted for inclusion into the technical programme. Speakers and authors will have the option to include their paper within a commemorative Conference Proceeding following the event, and/ or publication within AAPG datapages. Full papers are particularly encouraged, and these will be reviewed by a select panel of academics, industry and government professionals. The closing date for submissions is April 30th 2012.
The organizing Committee now welcomes abstracts for both oral and poster sessions in the following categories:
• Resource exploitation and the environment
• Aggregate resource assessment and management
• Deep water hydrocarbon exploration, development and production
• Hydrocarbon play concepts and prospects
• Stratigraphy, sedimentology and mineralogy
• Structure and tectonics of the southeast Caribbean margin
• Regional geology and basin analysis
• Biostratigraphy and palaeontology
• Rejuvenating mature provinces
• Unconventional hydrocarbon resources
• Alternative energy sources in the Caribbean
• Petroleum systems and geochemistry
• Geophysical techniques for geological applications
• Geophysical imaging of the deep crustal structure
• GIS and remote sensing in the Earth Sciences
• Coastal management
• Water resource identification and assessment
Geohazard identification, mitigation and disaster management
• The business of geology
Please identify one (or more) of the above topics to which your talk is suited.
ABSTRACT/ PAPER SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
All submissions should give due consideration to the conference theme, "From the Conventional to the Ingenious" tailored to the specific conference session. Submissions must also clearly indicate their intention for:
- Technical presentation only
- Poster presentation only
- Inclusion into the Conference Proceedings as a paper (preferred)
- Inclusion into the Conference Proceedings as an extended abstract
- Inclusion onto the GSTT website
Short Abstract Submission Guidelines
To submit your abstract/ paper for consideration, email the following information to gstt@tstt.net.tt :
• Your name and names of co-authors.
• The title of your talk / poster
• A brief bio of yourself
• Your preferred email address (if other than the one you sent your submission form)
Short abstracts should be sent as either MS Word document (2003, 2007 versions), Rich Text Format (RTF) or PDF. Short abstracts should not exceed 400 words in length and have no images or diagrams. A 12-pt. Times Roman font is preferred and avoidance of extraneous formatting (e.g. different font colours, unnecessary underlines), when submitting your text.
Extended Abstract Guidelines
Papers will be given first priority for inclusion into the Conference Proceedings
Extended abstracts should be submitted using the same document formats described for short abstracts. In addition, these can be one to four pages in length (single-sided only) with no more than two key figures and/or tables.
Paper Guidelines
Contributors have the option to submit a technical paper for inclusion into the Conference Proceedings in addition to their presentation for the Technical Programme. Papers will be reviewed by a panel of academic, industry and government professionals. An abstract is still required for the technical program by the set deadlines while papers must be submitted by the September 5th 2012 (earlier paper submissions are encouraged). Please indicate your interest in developing your abstract into a paper for inclusion into the Proceedings.
There is no limit to paper length or the amount of figures and tables that can be included. Papers should be submitted in the same format as described for abstracts.
Poster Guidelines
Posters will be displayed in concurrent sessions with the technical presentations. At least two panels 5 x 3 feet will be made available to each author. Authors are responsible for ensuring clarity of poster and relevance to the conference theme. Please submit an abstract of your poster by the set deadlines and indicate your willingness to develop your poster into a paper for review and publication.
Presentation Guidelines
Microsoft PowerPoint (2007) is the preferred format for presentations during the Conference. All presentations will be loaded onto a common machine as speakers will not be permitted to use their own computers. Additional speaker guidelines will be provided prior to the Conference.
