Studies of Late Cretaceous depositional systems in southwest Puerto Rico reveal the presence of an intra-arc basin,
separated on the southwest and northeast by arc platforms. The trend of the basin axis is poorly defined, but may
run northwest across central Puerto Rico, parallel to regional structural trends. The basin is filled mailnly with
volcaniclastic turbidities, equivalent in age to arc platform volcanic rocks and shallow-water limestone fades.
