A review of the plate tectonic history of the S.E. Caribbean leads to a rationalizatlon of the tectono stratigraphic development of Trinidad. The poly-phase history reflects the transition from Cretaceous Passive Marginto Tertiary Convergent Margin development. Hydrocarbon expulslon, migration (and re-migration) and entrapment are considered within the tectono-stratigraphic history and mid-Cretaceous (Passive Margin) and Paleogene (Foredeep) marine source rocks are postulated. This leads to the presentatlon of new play concepts and provides a framework for future exploration.
