· GSTT UPDATE

2nd GSTT CONFERENCE: Thirty five responses have been received to date from authors interested in presenting their work at the technical sessions; however only six authors have submitted Abstracts. Nine of the twenty-nine authors who have indicated an interest in presenting papers at the Symposium on the Cretaceous have supplied Abstracts. Eight persons have indicated an interest in presenting their work as poster .

Four post-conference field trips will be run from 6th to 8th April 1990 and include: (1) Geological Field Trip to Tobago (A. Snoke, University of Wyoming, leader); (2) Structural Styles in Trinidad (R. Ahmad, U.W.l., Mona, Leader); (3) Middle Miocene to Cretaceous Sediments in Trinidad (W. Ali, Trintopec, leader); and (4) Non-petroleum Economic Geology of Trinidad (R. Bertrand, Trinidad Cement Ltd, leader).

· The GSTT delivered a lecture on "The Restless Earth - A Guide to Plate Tectonics" to 150 A level geography and geology students at Presentation College, San Fernando on 26th September, 1989. The lecture was given by Winston Ali, senior geologist at Trintopec, and was geared to supplement the GCE A level geology and geography syllabus. Participating students came from St. Joseph's Convent, Narparima Girls and Boys Colleges and Presentation College. Additional lectures on Plate Tectonics and other topics relevant to the syllabus are planned at venues in north and south Trinidad for the benefit of A level geology and geography students.
­· SHORT COURSES Two schools/short courses will be put on by the GSTT in 1990. These are a 2 day Organic Geochemistry School, scheduled for January 1990, to be conducted by Dr. Kirton Rodrigues, geochemist (Trintoc) and a 5-day Mud Engineering and Directional Drilling Techniques in Trinidad School in March 1990, to be put on by Enos Thomas, Senior Petroleum Engineer (Trintoc).

· ON THE MOVE: Ken Abdulah,geophysicist (Trintoc) has gone to Rice University in Houston to pursue an M.Sc. in Geophysics. Ken has worked as a geophysicist at Trintoc since 1978.

Phillip Cosgrove, geologist (Trintoc) has taken up employment as a development geologist in Qatar, effective October 1989. Phillip has been employed as a petroleum geologist at Trintoc since 1981.

Bill Chaitan, geophysicist (Trintoc), has resigned effective November 1989. Bill has been employed with Trintoc since 1985 and plans to start up his own consultancy service - BOWS Geophysical Consultants.
