The new executive of the Geological Society of Trinidad and Tobago was also presented at the function.

In his outgoing address, the Past President Mr. Franklin Khan stated that the Society should continue its training programme with the accent on the role of computers and microelectronic technology in the search for oil. Also, he felt that the Society should maintain its active role of keeping the public reliably informed on the state of the petroleum industry and must make itself heard on national issues affecting all geologists and the petroleum industry. He expressed concern however, over the lack of employment opportunities in the country for geologists and the continued absence of legislation on the confidentiality of well data.

The new president, Ms. Carol Telemaque, in a brief address, urged her fellow geologists to work together and to make a greater effort to have their works published for the development of local geology. In this regard, she also saw the need for a relaxation of the strict company rules regarding confidentiality of data.

The function was chaired by the former Chief Geologist in the Ministry of Energy and National Resources, Mr. John Scott and the awards were presented by the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, the Honourable Mi.. Patrick Manning.
