INAUGURATION OF THE QUARRY ASSOCIATION OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO
The Quarry Association of Trinidad and Tobago (Q.A. T T) was formally inaugurated by the Minister of Energy and
Natural Resources, Mr. Patrick Manning, at their first seminar held on Saturday 12th March 1983, at the Chaguaramas
Convention Centre. In his opening address, the minister gave credit to the Geological Society of Trinidad and
Tobago (G. S. T T) at whose seminar on the Earth Extractive Industry held on 21st August 1982, (Newsletter No.
3) that the idea to form a Quarry Association was born. Mr. Manning also stressed on the need to regularise the
quarry industry and to optimise the exploitation of this irreplaceable resource at the same time, without neglect
to the environment.
The objectives of Q. A. T T as outlined by the President of the Association, Mr. Leroy Morris, are as follows:
To secure membership to Q. A. T T. of all persons engaged in the quarry operations in Trinidad and Tobago.
· To provide the membership of Q.A. T T with all available information and knowledge on all aspects of
quarrying and related operations.
· To develop through research and all other available means, modern quarrying technology related to conditions
in assist the geologist in regional lithostratigraphic mapping in the ongoing quest to win that extra
· To secure the goodwill of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago in relation to the promotion of the interests
of the membership of Q. A. T T and to the quarry industry as a whole.
· To promote the social and material welfare and educational upliftment of the membership of Q. A. T T by
any lawful means whatsoever
· To render assistance to the membership of Q. A. T. T in any form whatsoever
· To disseminate information and knowledge about Q. A. T T and the Quarry industry as a whole and to attract
personnel thereto particularly from educational institutions of all types in Trinidad and Tobago.
The G. S. T. T proposes to be closely affiliated with Q. A. T T in their efforts to best develop the non-petroleum
natural resources of Trinidad and Tobago in the interest of national development.
