How do I get there? if you are coming from Northern Trinidad, drive south along the highway until you reach Point-a-Pierre, continue till you see the new exit at Reform. Turn off there and continue till the next junction and turn right. Continue until you reach Williamsville junction and turn left. Continue driving till you pass a NP gas station on your left there is a next junction where you turn left. follow the signs from there make a left turn where indicated and follow the signs. |
The 1997 Eruption

Two main cones and about 35 minor vents existed in 2001
2002

Main vent 13th July 2002. apparently someone has partially destroyed the cone leaving a pool which is about 3 feet in diameter. Note that there has also been an attempt to plug the active vent with bamboo, in fact all the smaller vents have been subjected to the same type of blockage. The residents and/ or villagers do not realise the mud volcano is much like a shaken soft drink that will explode if trapped gasses cannot escape. |
